Our September trip is rapidly approaching. Two days left of work before we depart! Here’s what we’ll see, do, and eat, by the numbers:
- Number of resorts: 2 (Contemporary and BoardWalk Inn)
- Number of ADRs: 12
- Number of ADRs consumed while on the Deluxe Dining Plan: 6
- Number of signature restaurant ADRs: 4 (Jiko, Le Cellier for dinner, and California Grill for dinner…twice)
- Number of character breakfasts: 1 (scored a last-minute pre-rope drop ADR at Crystal Palace, so I figured why not?)
- Number of pins we’re bringing to trade: 104
- Number of behind-the-scenes tours: 2 (Keys to the Kingdom at Magic Kingdom, Undiscovered Future World at Epcot)
- Number of special Magic Kingdom events: 2 (Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert party, which we’ve done before, and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which is a first for us)
- Number of Earl of Sandwich sandwiches we’ll consume: Many? Dozens? Hundreds?
- Number of Photopass photos taken: TBD (but this is the first time we’ll have used Photopass, so expect a report when we return)
- Number of birthdays celebrated: 1 (I’ll be celebrating on the balcony of my theme-park view room at the Contemporary, champagne in hand!)
Lately I’ve seen a lot of people on blogs and on Twitter discussing their Disney bucket lists – theDisney things that they haven’t yet but must do before they die. Frankly, I’m not that good at long-range planning, so here’s a few things I’m looking forward to doing on this trip. Consider it a trip bucket list:
- Staying in a theme-park view room at the Contemporary. I haven’t stayed at the Contemporary since I was four, a trip I still remember well. The Contemporary has always been a place of fascination for me, and a sentimental favorite, as it’s my grandfather’s favorite resort. I can’t wait to watch Wishes from our balcony, lay in bed and look at the castle, and take an elevator from our room down to the lobby where we can easily catch a monorail.
- Staying club level…for eight days! We got a great taste of club level on our quick trip back in April, so this trip gives us a chance to evaluate club level over a longer period of time. I feel pretty confident that we’ll enjoy this.
- Going to MNSSHP. We are self-avowed nerds, and this event seems like the perfect opportunity to dress up in costume, be dorky, and revel in a chance to really act like kids again. Not gonna lie; I’m pretty excited for trick-or-treating, too!
- Doing new things: behind-the-scenes tours, trying out the dining plan, doing a split stay, and doing a character breakfast. There’s also a few rides we’ve never managed to do: Dumbo (seriously!), Carousel of Progress, and the Tiki Room. There’s a few more we haven’t done in a long time that we’ll do on this trip: it’s a small world, Mickey’s Philharmagic, Jungle Cruise, and the new Star Tours.
- Eating new things: on this trip, we’re trying out some new restaurants: La Hacienda de San Angel and Tutto Italia, both in Epcot; the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom; The Wave at the Contemporary Resort. If the mood strikes us, we might give Kouzzina a try. I’m also determined to have a representative sample of margaritas from La Cava del Tequila in Epcot.
- Eating old favorites: No WDW trip for me is complete without indulging in a few food favorites: the pork tenderloin at the California Grill; lunch at the Plaza; kaki gori in Epcot; a sandwich or two or twenty at Earl of Sandwich.
- Superlative scavenger hunt: I’m determined to start compiling my own “best of” list for Disney eats and drinks. On this trip, CP and I are going to find the best ice cream in all of WDW. I also want to find the best (read: strongest and tastiest) cocktail on property.
- Pin trading-palooza: Thanks to some good sales at disneystore.com and finding a reputable eBay seller, we’ve stocked up on tradable pins for this trip. CP and I don’t have a large pin collection, but it’s a growing one that we’re adding to carefully and selectively. On this trip, we have several pin sets we’d like to complete, and a couple new ones we’d like to start trying for. I’ll let you know how we do.
